“This Project Takes Care of Us”: Why sustainable cocoa starts with healthy farmers

A sustainable supply chain cannot exist without producers who are protected, in good health and able to earn a decent living from their work. In the cocoa sector, sustainability initiatives have long focused on improving productivity. However, every harvest constitutes much more: Thousands of rural families face daily challenges, particularly when it comes to access to healthcare.

Empowering Women and Youth Leaders for Green and Inclusive Business

With the aim of strengthening youth leadership and promoting the inclusion of women in rural areas, a workshop on green and inclusive entrepreneurship for young and female leaders was held in May in Pichanaki, Peru. Participants analysed current regional economic dynamics, learned valuable design thinking and leadership skills, and practiced the development of proposals and the presentation of pitches.

Working towards Responsible Purchasing Practices to promote Living Income in the Coffee Sector

Key actors in the Peruvian coffee sector came together in Lima this May to develop a common understanding on responsible purchasing practices, identify different perspectives and challenges as well as map impacts of purchasing and sourcing practices through the supply chain. The active collaboration of key actors and perspectives shared will inform the development of sector guidelines for responsible purchasing practices.

Key Milestone: Costa Rica’s Ministry of Labour Signs Memorandum of Understanding

As part of the German Retailers’ Working Group on Living Wages, another important step was taken to improve wage conditions in global agricultural supply chains. In March, Costa Rica’s Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MTSS) and GIZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly advance efforts to improve wages.

How coffee organisations cope with the effects of climate change

While coffee production in Peru faces growing challenges, a distinct set of responses is emerging in the Selva Central to address these problems. Producers are adopting new practices to improve productivity, resilience and farm management. Through training, demonstration plots and knowledge sharing between farmers, tangible results have already begun transforming coffee production to be more sustainable.

Closing the Living Income Gap in Cameroon with Biochar

How can smallholder farmers in Cameroon achieve a living income? At the 38th International Bremen Cotton Conference, the project Sustainable Cotton – Innovations for Strengthening Climate Resilience, implemented under the Fund for the Promotion of Innovation in Agriculture (i4Ag), demonstrated how biochar can serve as a scalable solution to boost incomes whilst simultaneously enhancing climate resilience.

Enabling framework conditions for EU due diligence: FIT for FAIR brings stakeholders together in Thailand

Where does Thailand stand in creating enabling framework conditions for relevant stakeholders to comply with European due diligence legislation – and where do gaps remain? With this guiding question, representatives from government, the private sector, academia and civil society came together in Bangkok as part of FIT for FAIR. The focus was on traceability, deforestation and human rights in the rubber, timber and palm oil sectors, as well as a joint analysis of the status quo and existing needs for action.

DIASCA Dialogue #2 - Scaling Transparency: Annual, global commodity tree crop maps

In this webinar, our guests Bryce Cronkite-Ratcliff, Nicholas Clinton, and Gustave de Campigneulles from Google will present a major milestone in spatial transparency: the release of annual, global commodity tree crop maps for coffee, cocoa, oil palm, and rubber, built with Google's Satellite Embedding dataset (Google Earth AI). They will walk us through the first pan-tropical, open-source maps at 10-metre resolution and discuss how this work closes a critical data gap for deforestation monitoring, supply chain transparency, and DPI.
