SASI-Lunchbreak: The impact of EmpCo on sustainability communication and producing countries
With the EU’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (EmpCo), a new regulatory framework comes into force that aims to make sustainability communication more transparent, credible and trustworthy. For agricultural supply chains, however, the implications extend far beyond marketing and legal compliance.
Dear friends of the Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI),
We warmly invite you to the next SASI Lunchbreak “The impact of EmpCo on sustainability communication and producing countries” on Thursday, 17th September 2026, from 13:00 to 14:00 CEST.
While the directive primarily addresses sustainability communication towards consumers, its implications extend far beyond marketing and legal compliance. Companies sourcing agricultural commodities increasingly need robust evidence to substantiate claims related to regenerative agriculture, biodiversity, responsible sourcing or improved farmer livelihoods. This raises important questions about data collection, impact measurement, sustainability standards and the role of producers in generating credible evidence. At the same time, companies are asking whether stricter requirements could unintentionally discourage them from communicating legitimate sustainability achievements. Together we want to discuss the impact of EmpCo on sustainability communication as well as on producing countries.
The event will be held in English.
In our series of events, we will show that implementing due diligence is feasible for everyone. With our expertise, we want to actively support you in the implementation. On the one hand, we will present various practice-oriented tools and guidelines with a focus on the agricultural and food sector. On the other hand, we keep an eye on ongoing EU legislative processes and international discussions for you. It is also indispensable to take the perspective of the people and companies in the partner countries. We want to include them through our cooperation on the ground. The SASI Lunchbreak is a regular format held on the first Thursday of every other month from 13:00 to 14:00 p.m.
