FIT for FAIR Thailand: Policy Recommendations for EU Due Diligence Readiness

How can Thailand create an enabling environment to support actors along value chains in responding to emerging due diligence requirements? At the closing event of FIT for FAIR Thailand, the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) presented five priority policy areas to strengthen enabling conditions for the rubber, palm oil and wood product value chains in the context of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

At the closing event of the FIT for FAIR Thailand project on 28 May 2026, the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) presented five policy recommendations to Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture. The aim is to support Thai stakeholders in building an enabling environment that helps actors along the rubber, palm oil and wood product value chains meet requirements related to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), while strengthening transparent, resilient and competitive value chains.

The recommendations build on eleven months of data collection, gap analyses and dialogue with stakeholders from government, industry and civil society. Key proposals include establishing a national digital traceability platform, strengthening human rights safeguards, and improving compliance and certification systems.

Additional measures focus on expanding digital capacities and creating a central data repository. Representatives from the German Embassy, GIZ and TEI highlighted at the event that transparency, reliable data and cross-sector collaboration are essential to include small and medium-sized enterprises and maintain long-term competitiveness.
