Sub Saharan Cotton Initiative (SSCI): Supporting the Sustainable Cotton Production (SSCP) in Côte d'Ivoire, Chad and Togo
The project “IDPP,” implemented by Solidarid Network West Africa, was carried out within the framework of funding with OLAM International and local partners. The project aimed to support a total of 32,500 cotton farmers in Côte d’Ivoire, Chad, and Togo by 2024 in achieving more sustainable cotton production—with reduced input use, lowered negative environmental impact, and increased resilience to climate change.A key component of the project was capacity building: farmers were trained in sustainable cotton production, robust cooperative structures were established, and market-oriented services for cotton farmers were developed. At the farm level, so-called Farmer Field Schools contributed to spreading knowledge about good agricultural and climate-smart practices and promoting their adoption. Additionally, agricultural producer organizations were strengthened—particularly by closing gaps in governance, leadership, financial, and operational management. This was achieved through a tailored package of technical assistance, coaching, and networking.
