INA Lunchbreak on supply chain due diligence act part 27
In March 2024, EU Member States voted for the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), which aims to promote responsible business practices. From 2027, the CSDDD will require large companies to fulfil their due diligence obligations to avoid negative impacts on human rights and the environment along the supply chain.
Companies based in Germany are already obliged to fulfil human rights due diligence obligations in accordance with the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). Standardisation systems offer helpful tools for implementing these legal requirements, and premium payments can also make an important contribution. How do standard-setting organisations support companies in implementing their due diligence obligations and what are their limits? What additional measures are necessary and are already being implemented?
A representative from Fairtrade Germany, who is a member of the German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa, will discuss these issues.
Lara Hutt, Officer for Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence, and Martin Schüller, Development Policy Officer Climate & Environment at Fairtrade Germany will explain the instruments Fairtrade offers for implementing due diligence obligations in supply chains, the role of certifications and the associated premium payments. She will show where the limits of the influence of standard-setting organisations lie.
The one-hour online meeting takes place on the first Friday of the month.
The date is Friday, 05.04.2024 from 12.00–1.00pm CET.
The event will be held in English.
