Sustainable Pepper Production in Indonesia – A Strong Example of Climate-Friendly Supply Chains
The “aGROWforests for Sustainable Spices in Indonesia” initiative targets the point where climate and environmental protection become tangible – in global supply chains.
The project supports 2,300 pepper farmers in Indonesia in transitioning from monoculture to climate-resilient mixed cropping. Smallholder farmers receive hands-on training in sustainable farming practices and are connected with companies. This creates stable incomes, healthy soils, and resilient cultivation areas – a real added value for everyone involved.
The success of this project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), would not be possible without close collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Fairfood, Verstegen Spices, and the two Indonesian organizations PT Can and Klumbayan Gold Farm (KGF).
A great example of how supply chains can be made future-proof and environmentally friendly!
