The project at glance

Commodity: Palm Oil, Cocoa, Natural Rubber, Banana, Coffee
Country: Colombia
Project goal: Increase sustainable production, farm incomes and improve employment conditions in the producer regions.
Project duration: 10/2020 to 07/2026

The INCAS Global+ aims to increase sustainable production, farm incomes and improve employment conditions in the producer regions. It works together with relevant stakeholders of the private sector to increase transparency and sustainability in global supply chains, and promotes exchange and knowledge transfer at a regional, national and global level through dialogues, multi-stakeholder platforms and digital solutions.

The project guides Colombian commodity production in the transition to a more sustainable model aligned with the EUDR (EU Regulation on Deforestation-free products) and CSDDD (EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive) regulations. It focuses on supporting the stakeholders of the selected supply chains in adopting innovation and sustainability concepts that allow producers to increase their income and production while preparing their rural organizations for the mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Through this it promotes sustainable practices and the protection of natural resources and biodiversity.

In accordance with the Global Programme AgriChains approach “From shelf to farm”, the INCAS Global+ project considers the entire agricultural supply chain. From supply chain links and stakeholders, to actions that responds to the demand of sustainable markets in the European Union, it considers quality standards, differentiation of products, traceability, and added value through transformation.

With its strategic partnerships with the private and public sector, civil society and academia INCAS Global+ has achieved broad implementation of its objectives: In alliance with national Federations such as the palm oil sector Federation (Fedepalma), the Cacao sector Federation (Fedecacao), and the Coffee sector Federation (FNC), the project has been able to support transformations in these sectors, e.g contributing to the development and implementation of gender inclusion policies, the participation in sustainable voluntary agreements and the dissemination by producer groups of sustainable practices that strengthen their capabilities to become suppliers of global sustainable markets in compliance with the EUDR.

In addition to supporting gender policy, the INCAS Global+ project has supported us to conduct trainings, workshops and orientations to address the EU Due Diligence law for the export of deforestation-free raw materials.

Around 10.000 smallholder farms in Colombia were able to increase their sustainability.

Improvement of employment conditions for more than12.000 people by enhancing infrastructure and equipment through cooperations with strategic partners.

30.000 hectares additional sustainable production areas, guaranteeing  zero deforestation and sustainable practices, including the promotion of agroecology through agroforestry systems and regenerative agriculture.

Positive impact on inclusion: More than 5.000 women and 5.000 young adults have been empowered through trainings, knowledge exchanges and the support to national policies for gender inclusion.

Establishment of 19 bio-factories through the support of  rural producers to increase the availability of organic fertilizers and biopreparations. The project has contributed to  progress towards cleaner and more environmentally friendly production.

We have been working on a special line of fine cacao and by working with the INCAS Global+ project, we have strengthened quality and explored new protocols to position our Amazonian cacao in the European market.

The results of the project will facilitate continuity in the supply of the selected sustainable commodities to the EU and Germany; it has been projected that progress will continue through the installed capacity of the project's strategic partners. In the last phase of implementation, there will be a focus on knowledge management for future related projects.
