Shaping the Future Together: Strategic Partnership with Olam Food Ingredients (ofi)
The Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI) and the MOVE-ComCashew programme are working closely with ofi (Olam Food Ingredients), a global leader in naturally good food and beverage ingredients. In September 2025, the partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the start of a new phase of cooperation for sustainable, fair and climate-resilient agricultural supply chains.
Why this partnership matters
- Direct access to millions of producers: ofi works with over 2.8 million farmers across 50 countries.
- Sustainability as standard practice: Together we support businesses in implementing new regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and Germany’s Supply Chain Due Diligence Act.
- Impact on the ground: Projects help to increase incomes, promote climate-adapted farming and improve transparency in global supply chains.
Practical examples
Cocoa and climate action in Ecuador
The Low Carbon Agriculture project strengthens the livelihoods of 2,800 smallholder families. In partnership with the NGO Rikolto, ofi and GIZ promote climate- and resource-friendly cultivation methods that boost yields while reducing CO₂ emissions.
Innovation in Ghana: putting cashew apples to use instead of discarding them
MOVE is supporting the processing of cashew apples, which have so far gone unused. Women and young people produce juices and other products – creating additional income streams and contributing to food security.
Our work on sustainable agricultural supply chains is especially effective when we collaborate closely with the private sector.
Shared goals to 2027
- Fair incomes for producers in West Africa, Latin America and South-East Asia.
- Fully traceable and deforestation-free supply chains.
- Climate-resilient agriculture with a focus on regenerative practices.
- Greater opportunities for women and young people in rural areas.
The current scope of cooperation with ofi exceeds €6 million, with ofi itself contributing €4 million.
Looking ahead

The partnership will be expanded through to 2027. Plans include a more systematic approach to cooperation and the development of new regional projects. The ultimate aim is agriculture that is economically viable, socially just and environmentally responsible – from fields in Côte d’Ivoire to supermarket shelves across Europe.
