SASI Lunchbreak on supply chain due diligence act part 8
Implementing Due Diligence through Biodiversity-Based Value Chains
Dear friends of the Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI),
We hereby invite you to the 8th SASI Lunchbreak on September 5th, 2025, from 12:00 to 13:00 CET.
In this SASI Lunchbreak, we will focus on the topic of Implementing Due Diligence through Biodiversity-Based Value Chains.
Global agricultural supply chains are evolving in response to new legislations such as the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), with human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) becoming a key priority. While much attention has focused on mainstream agricultural supply chains, biodiversity-based value chains, which rely on a wide range of wild and semi-domesticated species, offer alternative models for implementing due diligence and achieving sustainability at the economic, environmental, and social levels.
This upcoming SASI Lunchbreak will spotlight the potential of BioTrade, as defined by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), to foster inclusive, biodiversity-friendly business models that integrate sustainability and due diligence throughout the value chain. Unlike conventional agricultural supply chains, biodiversity-based value chains are characterized by a niche market, community-led management, and often operate under customary governance systems, factors that present both challenges and opportunities for implementing due diligence.
We are pleased to welcome the BioInnovation Africa project of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) to share insights into their work supporting biodiversity-based businesses and producers. The session will include an introduction to the Biodiversity Action Plan, a practical tool developed by UEBT to help actors identify risks and opportunities and strengthen sustainable use and biodiversity conservation.
You will find the access link in the calendar entry, which you can download after registration. If you do not receive a calendar entry, please contact us.

In our series of events, we will show that implementing due diligence is feasible for everyone. With our expertise, we want to actively support you in the implementation. On the one hand, we will present various practice-oriented tools and guidelines with a focus on the agricultural and food sector. On the other hand, we keep an eye on ongoing EU legislative processes and international discussions for you. It is also indispensable to take the perspective of the people and companies in the partner countries. We want to include them through our cooperation on the ground. The SASI Lunchbreak is a regular format offered online as a digital event on the first Friday of each month.
