SASI Lunchbreak on supply chain due diligence act part 3
Sustainable Soy Production – Global Challenges
Dear friends of the Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI),
We hereby invite you to the 3rd SASI Lunchbreak on February 7th, 2025, from 12:00 to 13:00 CET.
In this third event of our SASI Lunchbreak series, we will focus on the sustainable production of soy in the context of global challenges.
With a projected cultivation area of 143 million hectares this year, soy ranks among the most important agricultural commodities worldwide, with key production regions in Brazil, the United States, and Argentina, as well as growing importance in Europe. However, soy cultivation is also closely associated with ecological and social challenges, including deforestation, biodiversity loss, and problematic labor conditions.
These challenges highlight the urgent need for sustainable solutions and the establishment of harmonized international regulations. The new EU Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR) aims to address these issues by mandating transparency, legality, and sustainability throughout the entire supply chain. But how can these requirements be effectively implemented in practice?
This time we are pleased to welcome the international organization Donau Soja to our Lunchbreak. Firstly, Susanne Fromwald, Secretary General of the organization, will share best practices for implementing sustainability regulations and provide valuable insights from her extensive experience collaborating with companies and stakeholders across the soy supply chain — focusing especially on the European context. Additionally, Volodymyr Pugachov, PhD., Executive Director and Regional Director Eastern Europe, will provide a perspective on soy cultivation in Ukraine. Despite the ongoing war, Ukraine continues to be a reliable trading partner to the EU, supplying 650,000 tons of sustainably certified, GMO-free soy.
And this is what awaits you on Friday, 07 February 2025, from 12:00-13:00:

In our series of events, we will show that implementing due diligence is feasible for everyone. With our expertise, we want to actively support you in the implementation. On the one hand, we will present various practice-oriented tools and guidelines with a focus on the agricultural and food sector. On the other hand, we keep an eye on ongoing EU legislative processes and international discussions for you. It is also indispensable to take the perspective of the people and companies in the partner countries. We want to include them through our cooperation on the ground. The SASI Lunchbreak is a regular format offered online as a digital event on the first Friday of each month.
