About SASI
The Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI) works towards an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable transformation of global agricultural supply chains. In collaboration with politics, private sector and civil society, we put sustainability topics on the agenda and shape political discourse. We support the implementation of EU regulations and highlight opportunities within this framework. We promote corporate responsibility that goes beyond legal requirements.
Our goal: Improved living conditions of smallholder farmers and protected environment
To achieve this, SASI promotes sustainable practices in agriculture that contribute to greener, fairer, and more inclusive supply chains.
In Germany, the EU, and internationally, we foster corporate responsibility. We collaborate with a wide, diverse, and international network of private sector and civil society partner organisations – ranging from small, innovation-driven players to major global companies and the German retail sector.
Through this extensive network SASI can connect German companies with cooperation partners and other relevant organisations in the partner countries of German development cooperation. This enables us to jointly initiate sustainable projects that benefit all parties involved. SASI supports these efforts by providing tailored solutions, practical implementation experience, and essential information from the political environment. As a result, projects and initiatives can have an even greater impact across the entire supply chain.
Only through cooperation and mutual support can we overcome the global challenges and secure a sustainable future for generations to come – this is what SDG 17 ‘Partnership for the goals’ is about and what we will work on in SASI.
How we work
SASI's work is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Through our partner network, we also secure additional substantial funding from the private sector and the EU.
SASI addresses key challenges across various supply chains. Our focus areas include corporate due diligence and sustainable production, living income and living wages, deforestation-free supply chains, gender equality, and digitalisation.
SASI is open to project ideas and proposals from the private sector, civil society and politics. It offers an open platform for the exchange of actors who want to make global agricultural supply chains more sustainable.
