DIASCA Traceability Working Group Session: Data Agency and Privacy Protection in AgriFood Supply Chains
Dear DIASCA Members,
As demand for more trustworthy supply chains grows so does the processing of data that identifies small producers and agrifood businesses. In this session we examine how to manage this data responsibly, protecting privacy but also seeking to foster great control and agency in agrifood supply chains.
Four speakers will help us examine this theme:
Dr. Rozita Dara, Associate Professor at the University of Guelph School of Computer Science will join us to address how privacy-enhancing technologies, and applied machine learning can be applied in the agrifood sector.
Trang Vu, Associate Scientist at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) will address what it means to foster digital agency with smallholder farmers, where and how it is critical to manage privacy and informed consent, and considerations regarding how those permissions and data travel through the chain.
We will also be joined by Alessandor Chelli, Founder and CEO of Trusty, a blockchain-based platform that enables traceability and EUDR compliance in agri-food supply chains, enhancing transparency and trust.
Kristian Doolan will speak about building data systems that empower smallholder farmers with control over their own information through portable, reusable credentials. Drawing from his work at Farmer Connect and now at Bridge.ong, he’ll address how public, non-proprietary infrastructure is key for overcoming duplication, fragmentation, and inefficiency in agricultural supply chains.
We hope to see you there!
Best,
Brian & John
